Women who have undergone foot bunion operation?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Bunion

I have seen 2 surgeons who both suggested I have to do reconstructive surgery on both my feet( one at a time) for bunion operations. I'm very scared of this operations for various personal and social reasons. I am also a diabetic Type II. I need to know from other women who have undergone this operations what they went through and is it worth it??? Please help me to make my decision as I am being presurred to do it (for good reasons) from people I love.

it depends on the reasons why you are going for the op.
if you are doing it just for cosmetic reasons it may not turn out as well as you expect.
there are a few different ops for bunions, some are better than others, and you can research these online.

b4 i became a mom i was a podiatrist for 12 years and saw many people go through bunionectomies.
they had about a 50% satisfaction rate, with most people complaining about recurrence, and stiffness of the big toe.
the other 50% were real happy as they could get their shoes on easily.
your diabetes will be an issue only if it is poorly controlled, then you will have problems healing.
if your bunion is rubbing on your shoes constantly and causing lesions, or if you are in constant pain and having difficulty walking, i woud say go for it.
if you are having it done because you cant wear your fave 6 inch pointy toes, then dont do it!

Where can I find a pictoral diagram or videos on how to cast for orthotics in Podiatry?

The first place I'd go would be the medical library in your area

If the ones who answered my orthotics question could tell if this is normal, I'd appreciate it. Is it?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Orthotics

My ankle just above my right heel swells up if I wear the orthotics too long. Has this happened in your experience? It hurts like hell, and I have to put up with at work. How long does it take to get used to them?
I can't get any answers in the pain management section.

EDIT: OK, I asked! My partner says this is NOT normal, and suggests you contact your podiatrist asap, as there could be a problem with the orthotic.

Good luck with this! :-)

I'll ask my partner for you. I know there was some discomfort at first, but that sounds a little severe. I'll get back to you on this asap.

Cheers :-)

What catchy word or phrase could I use that would describe my on-line product?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Hammertoes

I have a unique method of making orthotic devices cheaper than going to the doctor's office; we are faster and more accurate because of our unique methods. Our main demographic is 55 years and older in the higher socioeconomic group. But runners will find our product will cut their time and reduce wear and tear on their joints. And children who have gait abnormalities will also benefit. The rest of us with bunions, hammertoes, neuromas, plantar fasciitis, etc. will get tremendous relief as well.
What word or phrase would help bring people to us?

How old do you have to be to get bunions removed?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Bunions

i am 15 years old and i have really bad bunions. i havent gone to the doctor about it yet because i dont want to pay money for them not to do anything. but they hurt really bad.

how old do you have to be to get them removed?
i need help becuase i need to get it done right away!!

You are still too young to think of surgery.Bunions often can be treated at home. This includes taking medicine you can buy without a prescription to relieve toe pain and inflammation or use ice to relieve pain.Avoid narrow shoes or high heels that put pressure on your big toe and foot. But don’t give up exercise due to toe pain.Try activities that do not put a lot of pressure on your foot, such as swimming and cycling.Surgery may be the last option if other treatments do not relieve pain. You can cushion the bunion and may use custom made shoe inserts (orthotics ).Wear roomy shoes that have wide and deep toe boxes, low or flat heels and good arch supports.

I'm having a lot of arch pain…I work in a warehouse where I stand on?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Arch Pain

a concrete floor all day. I wear gym shoes and buy inserts and have been doing so for 3 years but the past several months my arches and the back of my ankles hurt so bad it's hard to even walk.

What can I do and what is causing this all of a sudden? Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Are you flat-footed? Arches beginning to fall?

What should I do for plantar fasciitis?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Plantar Fasciitis

When I walk, I feel a pain on the bottom of my left foot, like a knife is stabbing into it. I went to a podiatrist about this two weeks ago, and he said I had plantar fasciitis. The pain comes and goes, but when it's bad, it's really painful, and putting any weight on it at ALL hurts like heck (like I said it feels like a knife is stabbing into my foot)! My question is, what should I do about it? I am wearing, per the podiatrist's instructions, supportive shoes (birkenstocks or good sneakers), but I still have pain sometimes.

My sister has it - had terrible pain and was unable to walk for days. She's much better now, goes for weeks without a flareup - thanks to a few simple exercises - mostly stretches. She actually started noticing the difference very quickly after starting them. The heel pads, arch lifts, and other stuff they sell were of no use, and some made her foot hurt worse. All the exercises recommended by various sites are the same, so you can do a quick search and find out what they are.

One trick she swears by - keep a frozen roll of cookie dough or freeze a soft bottle of water; when the foot starts to ache, take the roll, put in on the floor, and roll it with your foot. The cold of the object plus the massage should reduce the pain in minutes.

good luck - it doesn't get better quickly but it does get better

How long should it take a chipped off heel spur to mend??

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Heel Spur

It's been 30 days, I still have some tenderness in my heel, stiffness in the morning, been walking with one cruch for the past few days. My calf muscle has shrunk in size, I was walking daily goiing to Curves and playing volleyball weekly, when do you suppose I can start up again, safely? I am on my feet at my job for 7 hours a day too, been off since this happened.

Depends, if you don't put any weight on it at all, it'll take about 2 weeks to heal. It'll take longer if you do.

What could be the cause behind my extreme heel pain?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Heel Pain

The heels of my foot hurt very bad. It's almost too painful to stand or walk for very long. When I run my hand over my foot, I feel one spot that is raised on both feet. It's pretty much in the same spot on both feet. You can't see the spot but you can feel it. I have no idea what this could be. I do however think that I know the cause. I'd like your feedback on this and what you think. Since it's been cold, I've been wearing socks only on my feet instead of my regular flip flops and since I've been doing this that's when I've noticed the problem. Please help me on what I can do to relieve the pain and also help me to find what's causing this!!!

Well it could be a number of things, if it is on the bottom of your heel, it could be a heel spur, ouch… or a bruise, or the tendon could be dry and stretched, very painful. the best thing to do is to take a got bath, stay off of it for a few days and see if that helps.

If after a few days it still hurts, you may want to go to the health food store to the vitamen dept and ask the person that works there what would they suggest for this type of pain. Show them where it hurts, describe how it feels and when it hurts. that should do it.
